Queen’s Jubilee Celebration Day

Platinum Jubilee Celebrations, 2nd June 2022

Wareham celebrated the Queen's Jubilee in style at the Howard's Lane Car Park on June 2nd with children's entertainment, fancy dress, live music, bagpipes and the nationwide lighting of the Beacon.

Follow the progress of the day with these  photos taken by Sophia Lewis:

First to welcome everyone is of course Wareham's own Town Crier, Jacquie Hall, who's followed by Wareham Rector, Canon Simon Everett, starting the proceedings with a few words and a prayer.
Wareham's new Mayor, Councillor Malcolm Russell, then gives his welcome speech to all gathered for the commencement of the event.
It's a day for other celebrations too, including for local menswear outfitter, Merville Gover, whose mother is 94 !
The Wareham Town Band strikes up!
Talented local singer and musician, Karl Latimer, sings some classic tunes!
Fantastic entertainment for the children provided by the 'Little Gizmo's'!
A fire engine from Wareham Fire Station is parked up with top Fireman Paul Brown on hand to entertain and educate!
A poster competition featuring very well drawn pictures by pupils of Wareham St. Mary Primary School.
Peter, the Junior Wareham Town Crier doing his stuff!
Singer Jo Jones gets everyone to their feet!
Every celebration needs a hot dog or two!
Piper Freddie Sills plays 'Diu Regnare', a piper tune specially composed as a tribute to Queen Elizabeth for her Platinum Jubilee.
Ready for it... the beacon is about to be lit by the Mayor
At 9.45pm the Beacon is alight, following the one the Queen has lit herself moments before...
