Mayor Lucia Kirk unveils children's artwork in PYCF's garden.
During this summer, the Purbeck Youth & Community Foundation asked local artist Gill Down to provide them with a mural which could be completed by their young members. This she did, sketching it out over several boards. After the children had finished colouring Gill’s design in, it was then raised and given pride of place on a wall in the Foundation’s garden.
Pictured above after the grand unveiling recently are Wareham Councillor and Mayor Lucia Kirk flanked by (right) Councillor Doreen Cleaton, and (left) local artist Gill Down, plus from the PYCF, Trustee Joyce Spiller and Alan, proudly standing in front of the new mural.
The PYCF is a charitable organisation that was formed in 2016 by local volunteers, whose qualified staff support young people’s individual needs. The members have highlighted the club as somewhere they feel safe, where they can meet their friends but also make new ones, relax, enjoy themselves and take advantage of new opportunities.
The PYCF has followed the National Youth Association Covid guidelines, so that this summer’s activities, like the painting of the mural, were undertaken outside following Covid guidance.
The PYCF is one of the Mayor’s chosen charities this year, and Lucia said:
“The youth club worked endlessly during the Lockdown with meetings on Zoom, and one to one, in person or phone. During the summer they supported young carer’s activities’ at Carey Camp and the Centre and local young people in the garden and Outreach Sessions.
The staff and volunteers work tirelessly, fundraising and providing support and activities for young people, a valued support in our community. PYCF deserve our support and any donations will be gratefully received.”
