Margaret Green Animal Rescue Update

"Overwhelmed by support from the Wareham Community"

Margaret Green is a charitable animal rescue centre located in Church Knowle, Purbeck. They take in homeless, abandoned, neglected and mistreated pets, giving them the care and love they need as well as helping to find them a new forever home. The rehoming and visitor centre have remained closed during the Covid 19 crisis. This month they announced the positive news that they will be looking to start their plans to reopen.

Wareham Tower Chimes asked Geoff Wright, Margaret Green’s CEO how they are coping with the crisis and what their new plans will entail…

“We are now entering phase one of our plan to hopefully reopen our centres fully, as soon as it safe to do so. We are doing everything we can to protect our staff during these unprecedented times. Their safety, along with the welfare of the  animals in our care remain the priority. On the first phase of our plan to will hopefully see us reopen fully, as soon as it is safe to do so. We have put protocols in place at all our centres and shops, which we are asking everyone to adhere to.”

Is the rehoming and visitor centre open?

Our rehoming centres  remain closed, however, we are now able to ask potential rehomers to pre-register their interest and then book a rehoming appointment by calling the relevant centre. Our visitor centre at Church Knowle remains closed and is therefore not open for anyone to visit.

Are Margaret Green Shops open?

Our shops are still closed and we asking that anyone with donations holds onto them until we reopen and not to leave them outside. We hope to have an update soon.

Will there be any Summer Events?

All events up until the end of August have now been cancelled and we are posting updates on our events page on the website

Can I board my pet?

Our boarding facilities remain closed. If you or someone you know has an emergency boarding query please contact the centre closest to you. All contact details can be found on the Contact page on our website. We continue to offer support to Health Service Frontline Staff.

Can I volunteer ?

We miss all our volunteers incredibly, however, during this phased return we are not currently able to have volunteers visit any of our centres, charity shops or collect on behalf of MGAR.

Have you had much support during this crisis?

We have been overwhelmed with the level of support received over the last few months and in particularly from the Wareham community, it means so much to us and all the rescue animals. We hope all our supporters remain safe and well during this time.

How can people donate or support the Margaret Green Animal Rescue centre?

The charity’s trading and fundraising has been hugely impacted, and so if you are able to make a donation it would be greatly appreciated – every penny really does help. Donations can be made from the Margaret Green Website.
