Wareham Town Band

Friendly and inclusive group, who enjoy making music together!
Wareham Town Band in Dorset

The Wareham Town Band has existed since at least the 26th of July 1855, on which date it is recorded as having led a procession of carts carrying children back to town, following a church outing to Stoborough. Read the story of our history on the Wareham Tower Chimes Post on Wareham Town Band.

These days we do not lead many processions of carts, but true to our roots, the band continues play at fetes in and around the Purbeck region, from Puddltown to Wool and beyond. We also continue to participate in Civic events such as Remembrance Day celebrations.

We are always busy at Christmas, playing at church carol concerts, and music of a more secular type, but still festive nature at venues such as Wool British Legion, Longthorns Llama farm, Blue Pool and Bovington tank Museum. We also celebrate Christmas with our friends at the Wareham Masonic lodges, and of course, play carols every Saturday on the Cross in Wareham.

True to our roots, the band continues to include both brass and woodwind instruments. We are a friendly and inclusive group, who enjoy making music together. The band includes players of every standard, from professional to absolute beginners, who benefit from tuition freely given by some of our more experienced members. Everyone is encouraged.
