A message for these
challenging times...

By the Mayor of Wareham

” As Mayor I wanted you all to know that I share your frustration and pain in this present situation.

We all know we must adhere by the lockdown rules to keep everyone safe and reduce pressure on the NHS. We are lucky that we live in a beautiful rural area and we have had exceptional weather to keep us going. One day, on the other side of this virus, we all be back to normal to support our businesses and meet up with our friends and family.

Meanwhile I wish you all well. “

Welcome to Wareham

An ancient town and former royal borough, the charming market town of Wareham is a veritable delight wherever you look at any time of the year.

Between the rivers Frome and Piddle, the attractive gateway to the Isle of Purbeck was a major port until the Middle Ages. Now a thriving market town, happily combining the old and the new for locals and visitors alike.

Wareham Town Council was formed after local government re-organisation in 1974 and has 16 Councillors who represent all parts of the town. It has a long tradition of Town Mayors stretching back to 1336, and every name to date is recorded on panels in the Council Chamber.

Wareham Tower Chimes is published by Lewis-Fry Publications Ltd as agents for Wareham Town Council.

This year Wareham will receive a delegation of visitors from Wareham… that is from Wareham in Massachusetts!

Fairtrade Group

Wareham can claim to be a Fairtrade town through the many activities of this Group, especially from the regular stalls it sets up.

Volunteer of the Year

Wareham is fortunate to have so many wonderful volunteers, and in December Jacquie Hall our Town Crier was awarded.

A new wheelchair accessible powerboat has been launched by Wareham Boat Hire. It has been supplied by the Wheelyboat Trust.
